DWG
From The CAD Geek
Developed by Autodesk, the DWG file format is the primary file type for AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and many other Computer Aided Design software applications. Because of its widespread use in design, manufacturing, fabrication, construction, maintenance, and more, it remains the predominant file format for the exchange of design data.

Related File Formats[edit | edit source]
| Format | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| BAK | Drawing Backup | Whenever a DWG is saved, AutoCAD automatically creates a BAK to preserve the previous version of the drawing. |
| DWS | Drawing Standards | Contain predefined settings such as layers, text styles, and dimensions that ensure compliance with organizational or industry standards. |
| DWT | Drawing Template | Store preset configurations, including title blocks, standard layers, and default annotations, providing a foundation for new drawing files. |
