AutoCAD File Tabs provide a convenient way to manage multiple drawing files simultaneously. The feature is designed to provide an easy way to navigate between open drawings and provide quick access to many common file management tasks and commands.

Overview of File Tabs[edit | edit source]

The File Tab interface is located above the drawing area, and just below the Ribbon of the AutoCAD user interface. Each tab represents an open drawing that you can click to switch between open drawings.

Key Features[edit | edit source]

Quick Access of Open Drawings[edit | edit source]

File Tabs provide immediate access to open drawings, enabling users to swiftly switch between projects without losing context.

Close and Save Functions[edit | edit source]

Each tab includes options to close or save the drawing directly from the tab, streamlining the workflow and reducing the number of steps required to manage files.

Reordering Tabs[edit | edit source]

Users can rearrange the order of the tabs by dragging and dropping them, allowing for customized organization based on project priority or workflow preference.

Tab Preview[edit | edit source]

Hovering over a tab displays a thumbnail preview of the drawing, providing a quick visual reference without needing to switch to the file.

Context Menu[edit | edit source]

Right-clicking on a tab opens a context menu with additional options such as Save As, Close All, and Open File Location, offering further control over file management.
